About the course
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we work. It’s become essential for any organisation to remain competitive – whether by creating efficiencies or unlocking insights from large data sets. However, with opportunity comes risk. Unregulated AI use has already led to significant reputational damage and loss of trust from customers and stakeholders from several leading organisations.
Throughout your six-month journey on AI Strategy for Leaders, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of AI’s current capabilities and the opportunities it holds for organisations like yours.
With valuable insights and tools from globally recognised academics and industry experts, you’ll develop an in-depth grounding in AI’s current capabilities and the opportunities it holds for organisations like yours. You’ll also gain clarity on AI’s limitations, and how to manage and mitigate against commercial and ethical risks.
You can expect weekly live sessions with expert tutors and University of Cambridge academics, knowledge-sharing with leaders across a range of industries, and practical case studies showcasing effective AI adoption.
At the end of the programme, you’ll develop an AI implementation strategy aligned with your specific industry challenges, business objectives and workforce culture.
This course is relevant for both technical and non-technical leaders. It offers strategic and technical insights and prepares you to communicate the need for AI adoption to senior stakeholders and board members, so you can lead digital transformation.
This programme offers a structured pathway through Generative AI in Business, Strategic Risk Management in the Age of AI, and The AI Advantage: Strategy for Leaders, culminating in a capstone project for you to synthesise and apply insights gained across your full learning journey.
Subject Matter Experts will represent a diverse array of academics from across the University of Cambridge, offering an interdisciplinary overview of AI strategies in both technical and non-technical spheres, alongside real-world industry expertise.
Together, these elements ensure that the programme provides a deep, applied and comprehensive exploration of AI strategy that is unavailable elsewhere in the market, and firmly aligned with Cambridge’s strengths.
Course 1 – Generative AI in Business
This course provides a broad overview of the fast-moving world of generative AI (GenAI). You will study how to recognise its potential, avoid pitfalls and apply cutting-edge GenAI in your business.
You will also learn essential principles and strategies for integrating GenAI into organisational frameworks, exploring key areas such as evaluating AI solutions, identifying opportunities and navigating challenges and risks – all with a focus on your own business context. Drawing on practical, real-world case studies each week, you will acquire techniques to help you stay ahead in a fast-evolving sector.
Course 2 – Strategic Risk Management in the Age of AI
This course equips learners with an evidence-based toolkit for identifying, assessing and managing emerging risks in rapidly evolving environments.
You will engage with frameworks from across the risk analysis field – such as existential risk studies, decision sciences, organisational science and behavioural economics – particularly valuable for understanding AI-related risks, where traditional risk assessment methods often fall short due to deep uncertainty and unprecedented challenges.
Course 3 – The AI Advantage: Strategy for Leaders
This course identifies the key organisational capabilities, structures and resources required to successfully implement AI initiatives, including workforce dynamics and talent management, upskilling and reskilling staff, and acquiring buy-ins from senior stakeholders.
The capstone project
At the end of the programme, you will be given time to complete a capstone project focusing on creating an AI strategy aligned with your organisation’s objectives. This will allow you to take learnings from across the programme and apply it to a plan for your own organisation.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
develop a comprehensive understanding of AI concepts, terminology and current trends relevant to business leadership
critically assess the strategic opportunities and risks that AI presents within various organisational contexts
design and articulate an AI strategy aligned with overall business objectives, organisational culture and stakeholder expectations
identify key organisational capabilities, structures and resources required to successfully implement AI initiatives
describe the effects of AI on workforce dynamics, talent management and organisational change, and outline strategies for upskilling and reskilling employees
interpret and communicate AI-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making at the executive level.
On successful completion of the programme, you’ll receive a professional certificate from the University of Cambridge and a digital badge to display on your LinkedIn profile. These Cambridge credentials not only showcase your knowledge and expertise, but also demonstrate your commitment to professional development – helping to future-proof your career.
